What is a rug runner?

A rug runner is a long, narrow rug built to fit the confined width of a hallway, corridor, entryway, or staircase, while still bringing color, pattern, and softness underfoot.

What is a standard runner width?

Most hallway runners range from about 2 to 3.5 feet wide, matched to the width of the space. Length varies much more widely, from around 6 feet to 20-plus feet.

What styles come as runners at ModRen?

ModRen’s runner collection spans the same styles carried elsewhere on the site: Aubusson, Savonnerie, Persian, and Abadjian weaves, all in long, narrow proportions.

Are hallway runners durable enough for high traffic?

Yes, well-made runners in wool or hand-knotted pile are built to handle the concentrated foot traffic of a hallway. Flatwoven and heavier pile constructions tend to hold up especially well in high-traffic corridors.

How do you choose the right runner width for a hallway?

Leave a few inches of bare floor visible on each side of the runner within the hallway’s width, so the rug reads as intentional rather than wall-to-wall. Measure your hallway’s narrowest point before choosing a width.

How do you clean a runner?

Regular vacuuming handles everyday dust and debris from foot traffic. Because runners see concentrated wear, have antique or fine hand-knotted pieces professionally cleaned periodically rather than relying on vacuuming alone.

How many runners does ModRen have in stock?

ModRen currently has 50+ runners to browse online across Aubusson, Savonnerie, Persian, and Abadjian styles, with new inventory added regularly.

Can I see a runner in my home before I buy it?

Yes. ModRen offers in-home trials on many pieces, so you can see how a runner looks in your own hallway and light before making a decision (USA only).

Does ModRen offer trade pricing on runners?

Yes. ModRen works with interior designers and the trade on runners; contact us to discuss trade pricing for your project.

What is the difference between a runner and a standard area rug?

A runner is long and narrow, built specifically for hallways, corridors, and stairs, while an area rug is proportioned for open floor space in a living room, dining room, or bedroom.

Can I get a runner in an antique Savonnerie or Aubusson style?

Yes. ModRen’s runner collection includes both Savonnerie and Aubusson styles, along with Persian and Abadjian weaves, so you can match your hallway to the rest of your home’s rugs.
